Deputy Prime Minister HOR Namhong meets with Ambassador of EU

On November 8, 2004, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister HOR Namhong, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation met with His Excellency Mr. Klauspeter Schmallenbach, Ambassador of the European Union to Cambodia.

During the meeting, His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister and the Ambassador of the European Union discussed several issues like poverty reduction in Cambodia, Khmer Rouge Trial, and the Vietnamese Montagnard refugees.

His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister also requested the European Union as well as the Delegation of the European Commission accredited in Phnom Penh to contribute to the poverty reduction in Cambodia in accordance with the agreement on National Program between the Royal Government of Cambodia and the European Union from 2000-2004 and 2005-2007. He also suggested that all programs should focus on the rural development especially in the fields of health care, education, roads and clean water.

As far as the Khmer Rouge trial is concerned, His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister said that the Cambodian Government had completed her legal procedure and wishes to see the UN to undertaking the necessary steps so that the trial can be expedited.

Regarding the Montagnard refugees, His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister HOR Namhong said that Cambodia would cooperate with UNHCR and the Vietnamese Government to settle this issue.
