Deputy Prime Minister HOR Namhong meets with new Ambassador of the Russian Federation On November 4, 2004, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister HOR Namhong, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation met with His Excellency Mr. Valery Y. Tereshchenko, new Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Cambodia.His Excellency Ambassador appreciated Cambodia's success in international arena like admission to WTO and ASEM. Meanwhile, he informed His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister about Russia intention to join ASEM and sought support from the Royal Government of Cambodia. He also proposed to organize the 50th Anniversary of Cambodia - Russia Cooperation in 2006. He proposed to organize more consultative meetings between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of both countries. Russia had thoroughly considered the Cambodia's request for support for the Cambodia's candidacy of Non-Permanent Member of the United Nations Security Council for 2006 - 2007.In response, His Excellency HOR Namhong thanked the Russian people for their assistance and welcomed the Russian initiative to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Cambodia - Russia Cooperation and agreed that a regular consultative meeting between both Foreign Ministries be held in early 2005 to further develop the cooperation. Cambodia supported the ASEAN - Russia Summit. Cambodia has no objection to the Russia intention to join ASEM. His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister requested the Ambassador to encourage more investors from Russia to invest in Cambodia.
