In line with the foreign policy of maintaining old friends and making new ones, the Royal Government of Cambodia agreed with the Government of the Cook Islands to establish diplomatic relations between the two countries with the objective of strengthening bilateral ties and advancing cooperation in various fields of mutual benefit for the interest of the two countries and their peoples.

The establishment of diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Cook Islands was formalized through the signing of a Joint Communiqué on 14 May 2025 by H.E. Dr. CHEUNBORAN Chanborey, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Cambodia to Australia and New Zealand, and H.E. Ms. Kairangi Samuela, High Commissioner of the Cook Islands to New Zealand.
