On 29 August 2025, His Excellency Sun Sovanna, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and National Correspondent of Cambodia to the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF), held a working meeting with His Excellency Anouparb Vongnorkeo, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, in charge of International Organisations, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Vientiane.

The discussions mainly focused on the progress of preparations for the 20th Summit of La Francophonie, to be held in Cambodia, as well as on the designation of the next country to assume the presidency of the Network of Structures and Institutions in charge of La Francophonie in Asia-Pacific (RESIFAP). The meeting also provided an opportunity to share experiences from the organisation of the 23rd Ministerial Conference of La Francophonie held in 2007. On this occasion, the Cambodian side invited the Lao People’s Democratic Republic to actively prepare for its participation in the Francophonie Summit and related events scheduled for 2026.

In addition, on 28 August 2025, His Excellency Hulkrang Phanang, Ambassador of Cambodia to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, hosted a working luncheon in honour of the group of Francophone Ambassadors accredited in Vientiane. On that occasion, His Excellency Sun Sovanna, Secretary of State, attended as a special guest. This gathering provided an opportunity to share updates on the preparations for the 20th Summit of La Francophonie and to invite the attending diplomatic representatives to encourage their respective high authorities to keep their schedules open between October and November 2026 in order to participate in this major gathering of La Francophonie in Cambodia.
