On the morning of 25 September 2025, His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister PRAK Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, held a bilateral meeting with His Excellency IWAYA Takeshi, Minister of Japan, on the occasions of the General Debate of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, United States of America.

It was a pleasure for the two foreign ministers to meet again, and they took the opportunity to exchange heartfelt best wishes with each other, reminiscing on their previous two productive meetings during the Official Working Visit of Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet to Japan in May 2025 and at the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting and Related Meetings in July in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The Deputy Prime Minister briefed on the latest updates on the border’s disputes with Thailand. He reiterated Cambodia's position to making every effort to de-escalate the tensions, rebuild trust and implement fully and sincerely the recent agreements towards normalization of Cambodia-Thailand bilateral relations.
