Her Excellency Eat Sophea briefs members of Diplomatic Corps and UN agencies in Cambodia on the latest developments in the Cambodia-Thailand border situation


On the afternoon of 15 August 2025, at the Head Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Her Excellency Eat Sophea, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, led a meeting to brief members of the Diplomatic Corps and UN agencies in Cambodia on the latest developments in the Cambodia-Thailand border situation, including (1) the essence of the Special Meeting on the current situation between Cambodia and Thailand that reached an agreement on a ceasefire on 28 July 2025 in Putrajaya, Malaysia; (2) the positive outcome of the extraordinary meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) on 7 August 2025 in Malaysia; and (3) Cambodia’s concerns over the increased risk to the fragile truce, in light of several inconducive activities, including laying barbed wire and movement of forces which harm mutual trust and contrary to the terms of the ceasefire.

 

Her Excellency Eat Sophea totally rejected the allegation that Cambodia had laid new landmines and reaffirmed Cambodia's commitment to achieving peace and peaceful resolution to the Cambodian-Thailand border dispute. Her Excellency Eat Sophea also touched on the outcome of the Tea Chat Meeting participated by the Foreign Ministers of Cambodia-China-Thailand on the sidelines of the Mekong-Lancang Foreign Ministers' Meeting, held on 14 August 2025 in Anning, Yunnan, China.
